The refurbishment to the existing public house now offers a welcome ambience to attract a wide range of clientele throughout the day and evening trades. The main objective of the brief was to enhance the existing food offering and capitalise on the location of the public house by introducing a raised seating deck and cordoning off a private patio area with views over the canal.

DV8 Designs were recently asked to write an article for Hotel Business magazine. The article was to discuss what important points you should consider when creating the perfect boutique hotel. Lee Birchall, Managing Director at DV8, was able to draw on his years experience in designing hotels around the country as well as his knowledge gained from his other work in the leisure industry, and wrote a comprehensive guide to the perfect boutique hotel.

The overriding message from the article is that each boutique hotel should be unique in design and create an intimate feel. When creating a boutique hotel, the proprietor can have a certain degree of creative freedom. However, defining the look and feel of the hotel requires a great deal of attention to detail. This highlights the importance of employing a good interior designer.

The article appeared in September’s edition of the magazine, if you missed it you can see an electronic version here HotelBusiness Sep11 – DV8 Designs

One of the competitors in the race was Lee who along with 20 others made up the team “The A Team” who went on to win the race.

“The hospice is something that I am always keen to support. I ran the Bupa Great North Run earlier this year for Warrington Disability Partnership, but when I was asked to take part in the Dragon Boat Race I jumped at the chance as it sounded like it would be a great challenge” said Lee.

This is the third year that The A Team have taken part in the Dragon Boat Race (first year for Lee), raising £4,705 in 2009 and £5,730 in 2010, this year they are on target to surpass this. “We all had a superb time and were really pleased when we won. Last year when the team entered they came third so it was a great achievement to pass the finish line first this year.”

DV8 Designs are no strangers to helping out the local community and have been working with Warrington Town Football Club on the redevelopment of the ground. They were also a driver behind the Centre for Independent Living at Warrington Disability Partnership, in helping to secure the necessary building regulations.

“As Warrington born and bred I am always keen to help out local organisations and charities as best I can. Utilising the skills that I have gained through my architecture and interior design practice has certainly helped with community projects in the past and I look forward to working on more projects in the future.”

June 2011 - Following on from the other successful sites in Disley and Poynton, Purple Pakora restaurant chain has been granted planning permission to transform the former Basmati Restaurant on Brabyns Brow, Marple Bridge into its latest exciting new restaurant.

Work is due to start on the site soon and the restaurant is anticipated to be open mid July serving the same high standard authentic modern Indian cuisine which it is well known for in the area.

The Purple Pakora worked with DV8 Designs who were the driver behind obtaining planning permission by producing a building that is both exciting and new whilst giving thought for the immediate area. The building is to have a complete facelift to include all new timber cladding and circular windows to dramatically improve the look of the existing site. The interior will reflect the modern food on offer and will of course include the infamous “bubble walf”, a bank of tanks that creates a dramatic effect.

Lee Birchall, Managing Director, DV8 Designs: “With over 20 years experience in the architectural and interior design business we were able to hit the ground running with this project. We have successfully contributed to a restaurant design that will look great now and for years to come.”

“We have really enjoyed working with Bob Bakht from Purple Pakora and look forward to working with him and his team on future projects.”continued Lee.

DV8 won’t have to wait long as the company has just announced its plans to expand the chain further and are hoping to open a fourth restaurant in Congleton in the coming months, a great achievement in this current economic climate. What do they contribute to their success? Bob Bakht, owner says “We serve authentic Indian cuisine that is consistently of a high standard. Coupled with our excellent customer service, diners invariably come back for more.”

Working on behalf of Pulse Fitness and Waveney Council, DV8 Designs were commissioned in 2009 to complete the architectural and interior design schemes for the extension and refurbishment of the existing Waterlane Leisure Centre in Lowestoft.

DV8 worked closely with the council on behalf of Pulse Fitness to create a design that was contemporary and stylish while still falling within budget constraints. The redevelopment has been part funded by a Sport England grant, which has been considered when developing part of the design. A new façade will be implemented to front the renovated section of the building as well as a new internal layout designed around the retained swimming pool and sports hall. New facilities will include a teaching pool with moveable floor and a new combined table tennis and martial arts space with adjoining squash facilities. The design of the changing facilities will be improved, as well as access for users with reduced mobility and their carers. When complete, the leisure centre will offer a brand new fitness suite, thermal suite and spa treatment rooms, an improved climbing wall, a soft play centre and large café.

After a successful tender bid the project commenced on site in September 2010. The leisure centre has already undergone partial demolition before the majority of the site is to be replaced with the new structure. For the duration of the project, which is estimated to last twelve months, the sports hall will offer a temporary gym facility, fitness studio and small sports hall. A temporary reception area had also recently been constructed to give clients a hint of what is to come in the final design.

DV8 were appointed by Warrington Town Football Club to come up with a solution for their training pitches at their ground on Loushers Lane. DV8 submitted a design for planning approval which included two state of the art all-weather pitches to replace the current training field and bring in additional revenue to the club from local 5-a side teams in the evenings. The new pitches will allow year round training and low level maintenance. We are pleased to announce that planning permission has now been granted and the project will be underway in early 2011.

The existing basement area in the 5 bed detached property was previously unused and the brief was to create a bar area for entertaining guests which could also accomodate a games and poker area! The solution was well received by all, and even opened out onto a sunken garden area for summer evening entertainment.

DV8 were delighted on being commissioned to work on this exciting project, and being given the opportunity to enhance their their vast bar portfolio in a different manner.
