DV8 Hospitality – The Spread Eagle, Mellor
With a prime, elevated location overlooking the Ribble Valley and rolling Lancashire countryside, North West based architecture and interior design company DV8 Designs has transformed an underused external terrace at The Spread Eagle, Mellor into a beautiful outside dining location, truly maximising on those infamous Ribble Valley views. Using beautiful design features such as external zoning spaces and feature walls, DV8 Designs have helped the independent family owners to reach the full potential of this wonderful country pub, making this so much more than just a pub eatery.
During lockdown, Stuart Clarke, the owner/operator of The Spread Eagle, approached us with a vision to make their outside area truly unique. After visiting the pub, we knew it was going to be something really special, and we couldn’t wait to get started on the design work.
This project has been a favourite for our team because of the specific architectural elements involved, such as an extension to their existing indoor dining space, creating additional flexibility for larger events and functions, and an external timber pergola for covered dining. Alongside the external terrace refurbishment, there was a great opportunity to create a key focal point at the front of the building, with the design and creation of a new entrance porch, which now acts as a beacon to the local community, welcoming them to the pub.
Operationally, the client had a clear idea of what they wanted, but with our years of experience in hospitality (operationally and in design), we were able to advise not only on colour and style but also in placement, thoroughfare and the overall guest experience. We understand hospitality and brands and are passionate about transforming venues for them to reach their potential.
We are proud to be part of their development, and it’s great to witness that the makeover has helped drive further success for them with new revenue streams being attracted, including weddings and life events. It’s particularly rewarding to see that the local community have really enjoyed the changes.
