DV8 Designs Appointed to Spa Destination at the Heart of the Lake District
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa has long been one of the Lake District’s most recognisable luxury destinations. Set against the shores of Windermere, with panoramic views stretching across the surrounding fells, the resort balances contemporary hospitality with a strong connection to its natural setting. DV8 Designs was appointed to design the spa destination, with a focus on redefining and elevating the guest experience within this iconic setting.
Leading the project from concept through to completion was Interior Designer Molly Smith, whose close collaboration with both the client and contractor team ensured the vision was realised with precision and clarity. “The client placed a huge amount of trust in our vision,” Molly explains. “That creative freedom allowed us to push the concept further and create something truly distinctive for Low Wood Bay.”
Inspired by the Landscape
The completed spa transformation creates an experience that feels both grounded and elevated. Inspired directly by the surrounding Lake District landscape, a rich, earthy palette forms the foundation of a concept rooted in natural tones. Bold, colourful accents introduce depth, warmth and intrigue, drawing guests through the space. While the design remains cohesive with the existing spa, the intention was to evolve the concept and create a more distinctive identity within the setting, delivering a refined and original experience that sets itself apart.
Crafted Through Detail
From early concept exploration through to final installation, the project was shaped through a highly collaborative and hands-on process. The scope included the development of full interior schemes, material palettes, mood boards and detailed 3D visualisations, alongside continual on-site involvement throughout construction.
Molly explains: “Design is often associated with bold statements, but I believe it’s the smallest decisions that make the biggest impact. The glow of the hidden LED strips, particularly against the rich terracotta ceilings, creates a sense of depth and warmth that cannot be achieved with traditional fittings. That said, the space wouldn’t be complete without the mask station. It’s a thoughtful addition that enhances the guest experience and reflects the care and attention the team put into creating this spa.”
