Salt and Tar
Re-imagining and transforming an underused space into a large live event and culinary destination.
DV8 Designs were appointed by brewer and pub retailer Hyde’s Brewery to transform Wirral’s historical landmark former Police Station in Heswall into a new Hyde’s premium dining and social destination. Renowned as an architectural jewel, Heswall Police Station was originally designed by local architect Harry Beswick, built in 1911 from red brick with sandstone and regional detailing including the county flag of Cheshire corn sheafs at the centre of the County Constabulary plaque.
DV8 Designs have a stellar reputation for pushing creative boundaries, & we were keen that this unique skill would play a pivotal role in bringing Harry Beswick’s vision to life. With a keen eye for detail and an unwavering commitment to excellence we planned to successfully convert the former Heswall Police Station into a place that beautifully married historical significance with modern-day appeal.
Part of the DV8’s programme of works was to extend the building to create new dining zones, including outside dining with the addition of a welcoming sun facing terrace and the provision of car parking, resulting in a positive contribution to the street scene, and vibrancy of the town centre.
From the moment you step through its doors, you’re welcomed by the architectural elegance of yesteryears, seamlessly integrated with modern design elements. The result is a space that invites you to savour the past while enjoying the amenities of today. It’s a fusion of history, character, and style that creates an unforgettable atmosphere.
Whether you’re looking for a cozy corner to relax with a drink, a stylish bar to socialize, or a place to enjoy delectable pub food, this destination has it all.
In ‘The Harry Beswick,’ history and modernity coexist harmoniously, offering a unique experience to all who visit. It’s a testament to the power of design, architecture, and the dedication to preserving the heritage of a place while embracing the opportunities of the future.
